The Great Wagon Road

The Great Wagon Road followed paths used by Indians and was the main roads by which the Scots-Irish moved south and west and peopled the backcountry and Southern Uplands.  In the 1700s and early 1800s The Fall Line Road and Upper Road became the most used segments of the road system and many Scots-Irish settlements were established along these routes from Pennsylvania to Georgia.

  6. It's only been 24 years since the Map Guide to American Migration Routes, 1735-1815, was published - but guess what? A new replacement/ huge update is at the printer (expect Nov 2021).
I like this blog a lot and since you went to the trouble of researching the source of my map, I think I should send you the 16-page chapter from the new book called "Scot-Irish Wagon Roads." I will give you permission to use any of the maps. The Scots-Irish routes/Maps in that chapter: Catskill Road (MA), Mohawk Trail (MA,NY), Iroquois Trail (NY), Great Genesee Trail (NY), Hudson River Road (NY), Philadelphia Wagon Road (PA), Great Valley Road (PA, VA), Pioneer's Road (VA), Fall Line Road (VA, NC, SC, GA), and the Upper Road (VA, NC, SC, GA). There is also "Scots-Irish Wagon Roads, 1720-1750" which replaces the map you used in the blog. Send a message to my email address and I will reply with an attachment of the Scots-Irish chapter.
